City of Lakewood -
Is looking for volunteer drivers. If you are interested, the commitment would be 1 hour or less, once a week, delivering hot lunches to homebound Lakewood seniors. If you can’t perhaps you know someone that might be interested. Thank you for your continued support. Contact: Volunteer Services Office - (216) 529-5005
Lakewood H.S. Key Club Advisor Bruce Giberson just completed arrangements with Lakewood Dept. of Forestry. Five trees will be planted by the City, with the help of the KEY Club, on the green space between the black fence and sidewalk on the north side of Franklin Avenue scheduled for mid-April. The KEY Club will be making a donation to defray the cost of the trees.
KIWANIS INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION
Read the amendments and resolution proposals that will be discussed and voted on by the delegates present at the convention:
Kids Need Kiwanis
Lakewood Kiwanis K-Kids continue to be active helping today's children become leaders of tomorrow through the leadership of Anna Bacho.
Three of Lakewood's elementary schools sport K-Kids clubs - "Family life Before And After Care" (Harrison) 15 kids, Horace Mann, 28 kids and Grant - 25 kids. In December they made Happy New Year Cards for Meals on Wheels and collected toys for Lakewood Christmas Store, exchanged PenPal letters with a K Kids Club in Florida and their latest project - (January/February) - Planning a Bake Sale to raise funds for solar lights to send to Puerto Rico. All good training for our future leaders.
The Lakewood Kiwanis Foundation now has its own website. .......Continue to use the Lakewood Kiwanis website as usual including Paypal dues payments.

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT - FEBRUARY 2018
There is no change from the year end December 31 numbers for The Eliminate Project thus putting the club’s total at $46,896.56 which is 78.1 % of the goal of $60,000. That represents an aver. member gift of $586.20. The club still needs to raise $13,103.44 towards its goal of $60,000..
Noteworthy progress continues to happen. Only 15 countries remain at risk for maternal and neonatal tetanus; 44 out of 59 priority countries have been validated for MNT elimination. Haiti has eliminated MNT and the entire western hemisphere is certified as MNT free. The Philippines became the third country to eliminate MNT in 2017 following Ethiopia and Haiti. The Philippines is the 24th country to achieve elimination since Kiwanis began the The Eliminate Project. The Eliminate Project will now focus in the first quarter of 2018 on immunizations in Guinea and Nigeria............Tim Mohr
